AlphaValue Study Points to Diverging Paths for Oil and LNG

A new study by AlphaValue suggests the paths of oil and LNG are diverging, with global LNG demand forecast to increase from 422 Mtpa in 2025.

Independent research firm AlphaValue has released a comprehensive sector study titled "2050: A Gas Odyssey", assessing the future of the global liquefied natural gas market. The analysis suggests that the trajectories of oil and LNG are moving further apart, with both energy sources expected to follow increasingly distinct pathways in the decades ahead.

According to the study, international demand for LNG is projected to grow from a foundation of 422 million tonnes per year (Mtpa) in 2025. While traditional oil markets continue to face shifting global conditions, long-term projections indicate expanding market share and sustained structural requirements for natural gas.

For vessel operators, offshore contractors, and technical procurement teams, this shift highlights the need to prepare for evolving operational priorities. Sustained LNG demand will influence fleet specifications, requiring robust supply chains for specialised marine equipment, gas-handling hardware, and offshore technical services.
