AlphaValue Study Points to Widening Divide Between Oil and LNG Paths
A sector study by AlphaValue suggests that the future market paths of oil and LNG are diverging, with global LNG demand expected to climb from 2025.
AlphaValue has published a sector study examining the global liquefied natural gas market, titled "2050: A Gas Odyssey". The analysis points to diverging long-term trajectories for oil and LNG, suggesting that the respective commercial paths of the two energy sources are moving further apart over the coming decades.
Central to the findings is an expected increase in worldwide LNG demand, which is forecast to climb from 422 million tonnes per year in 2025. This projected growth underscores the distinct role anticipated for natural gas in relation to conventional crude oil supply across global markets.
For offshore contractors, vessel operators, and technical procurement teams, these contrasting outlooks indicate a continuing evolution in project requirements. Planning for future equipment, specialised marine services, and supply chain capacity will increasingly depend on tracking the differentiated development of gas infrastructure alongside traditional oil operations.
