NNPC and Heirs Energies Agree Gas Capture Deal at OML 17

NNPC and Heirs Energies have signed an agreement to capture and monetise flared gas at their onshore OML 17 joint venture in Nigeria.

Nigeria’s state oil firm, NNPC, and domestic producer Heirs Energies have signed an agreement to capture and utilise gas that is currently flared at their onshore OML 17 joint venture. The arrangement forms part of a broader move among Nigerian operators to monetise natural gas resources while reducing routine flaring across the country's oilfields.

Through this commercial framework, the partners intend to recover associated gas that would otherwise be wasted, turning it into a marketable product. The move highlights the ongoing focus within the Nigerian energy sector on curbing emissions, improving operational efficiency and unlocking economic value from mature petroleum licences.

For procurement teams, contractors and equipment suppliers, gas recovery and flaring reduction programmes drive sustained requirements for specialised processing systems, valves, compression units and technical services. Continued progress on domestic gas monetisation projects is therefore expected to support regular supply chain and contracting activity across the regional energy market.
