PETAN Urges Allocation of Oil Assets to Capable Operators to Boost Output
PETAN has called on the NUPRC to award oil assets to technically capable operators in a bid to boost Nigeria's national output.
The Petroleum Technology Association of Nigeria (PETAN) has stated that national oil production could increase if assets are awarded to technically capable operators. PETAN Chairman Wole Ogunsanya highlighted that assigning licences to companies with proven operational competence is critical to driving output growth across the country.
The association has urged the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) to prioritise technical capacity when allocating petroleum assets. Placing acreage with qualified operators is regarded as a vital step towards ensuring that undeveloped or underutilised blocks are effectively revived and brought into sustained commercial production.
For vessel operators, offshore contractors, and technical procurement teams, the transfer of assets to capable developers could stimulate upstream activity. A higher volume of active field operations typically drives sustained requirements for offshore support vessels, marine maintenance, and specialised equipment supplies across the region.
