PETAN Urges NUPRC to Allocate Oil Assets to Capable Operators

The Petroleum Technology Association of Nigeria (PETAN) has highlighted the importance of asset allocation in raising the country's crude oil production. According to PETAN Chairman Wole Ogunsanya, assigning oil acreage to technically capable operators is critical to expanding Nigeria's output and supporting the sector's recovery.

The industry association has called on the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) to prioritise technical competence during asset licensing and transfers. Placing concessions in the hands of experienced operators is viewed as an essential step towards unlocking value from domestic fields and resolving persistent production bottlenecks.

For vessel operators, offshore contractors, and procurement specialists, any regulatory shift towards technically driven operators is likely to encourage field development activity. Capable operators with the ability to ramp up extraction will require sustained logistical support, marine charter services, and regular flows of technical equipment across Nigerian offshore and onshore locations.
