Petrobras Evaluates Offshore LNG Export Opportunities

Brazil’s state-controlled oil producer, Petroleo Brasileiro SA (Petrobras), is currently evaluating the potential to export liquefied natural gas (LNG). The assessment follows a noticeable surge in global demand for the fuel, particularly from buyers situated in Asia as well as other international markets.

The company is examining whether natural gas produced from its expansive offshore fields can be commercially exported overseas. Converting offshore gas production into export cargoes would represent a strategic development, allowing the national operator to capitalise directly on expanding worldwide energy trade and high regional import requirements.
